Last year I went all out with the stick-on bats for our Halloween decorations, but this year I wanted something a little simpler. In my search for inspiration, I found some printables on Etsy and used them to create a simple, spooky Halloween look. Let’s dive in to everything I purchased and how I put it together!

What is a Printable?
A printable is an image or set of images that you purchase and then print yourself. It’s really that simple.
So for example, after my purchase, I received a PDF that explained how to print the art and a link to a Dropbox folder with all of the image files in different sizes. What was great about this is that I was able to download whatever size image I wanted (like 8×10 or 16×20) and then print it myself at home or find a place to print it.
This helps to keep costs down (the set of 9 prints I purchased was around $10) and gives you a ton of flexibility when it comes to how you want to display the art, which is just what I was looking for.
What I Ordered on Etsy
Etsy has a plethora of printables, especially for Halloween, so after lots of searching I finally narrowed it down. To complete the look I was going for, I ordered two sets of printables from the Kiki & Nim shop on Etsy. The two sets I ordered were:
- Kiki & Nim Dark Academia Decor – Set of 9 Halloween Printables
- Kiki & Nim Halloween Skeleton Printable Wall Art
Where I Had the Art Printed
Once I purchased the printables, I had to figure out what sizes I wanted. Since our fireplace mantel is pretty big, I decided I was going to layer three of the images. I also wanted to use the row of skeletons image for our entryway, so I needed that printed as well. After some measuring, and a little guessing, I decided on the following sizes and ordered them as Large Format Prints from Artifact Uprising:
- Castle image in the black frame: 16 in. x 20 in.
- Crow image in tan frame: 11 in. x 14 in.
- Skeleton image in gold frame: 8 in. x 10 in.
- Row of Skeletons image: 8 in. x 10 in.
As you can see, two of the prints are way too big for a regular home printer, so I just decided to have all of them printed so they were all the same. I ordered a print from Artifact Uprising a couple years ago and I really liked the quality, so I just went with them again this time around, But, the great thing about printables is that you can print them wherever you want, so feel free to shop around and find the best quality/price combination that works for you.
For reference, my total for all four prints came to around $100. They did have a 15% off promotion going on when I ordered my prints, so I think it was normally around $115 for all four prints, but I plan on using these for Halloween going forward, so for me, it was worth the investment.
Where I Found the Frames
Once I had the prints, I had to find some frames. I didn’t have any extra ones laying around the house, or any that I could repurpose, so I went out and found some that would work. I initially started looking for some antique or vintage frames, and was blown away at the price, so I turned to Target, Ikea, and Amazon to complete the look.
- Large 16 in. x 20 in. Black Frame – IKEA Edsbruk Frame
- Light Wood 12 in. x 16 in. Frame – IKEA Dalskarr Frame
- Gold Detailed 8 in. x 10 in. Frame – Amazon Golden State Art 8×10 Frame
- Dark Wood 11 in. x 14 in. Frame – Target Wood Matted Wall Frame
Another benefit of these printables is that you can use the frames for anything you want after Halloween and the prints are easy to store if you’re limited on space. We actually love how the art helps to balance the mirror on our mantel, so we may actually find a print that we can leave up year round. And then next Halloween, we’ll just swap the pictures out and be all set.
Decor to Finish It Up
To finish up the look, I used some accessories I already had and purchased a couple more items to fill in the empty spaces. Since the printables give off a Halloween vibe, I really didn’t have to add too much, which was really great. And if you’re going for a simple Halloween look, this is a great way to pull that off without having to do too much, like spending a whole day putting bats on the wall. Everything I ordered is linked below if you want to take a look and check anything out for yourself!
